BREAKING: Jim DeMint Leaving the Senate

Exciting news, or it is certainly exciting to me, as I have a tremendous amount of respect for Senator DeMint and the Heritage Foundation. I hope we see more instances of conservative activism being put at the forefront and less politicians seeking office to secure a ‘cushy’ life long career with benefits. Bravo Senator DeMint!

(Washington Post) Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) is leaving Congress in January to lead the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, as first reported by The Wall Street Journal.

DeMint, a staunch conservative who often clashes with party leadership, was reelected to a second term in 2010. He will depart before the new Congress is sworn in next month.  “I’ve decided to join The Heritage Foundation at a time when the conservative movement needs strong leadership in the battle of ideas,” DeMint said in a statement. “My constituents know that being a Senator was never going to be my career.”

The senator, a vocal advocate for term limits, had already pledged not to seek a third term.

Senator DeMint tweeted this today:

It’s been an honor to serve the people of South Carolina, now it’s time to pass the torch and take on a new role 1.usa.gov/TUxBWC

As I listen to Glenn Beck expressing concern about DeMint leaving the Senate, I remain encouraged by his decision. I have faith in Gov. Nikki Haley. that she will select a strong conservative replacement.

Although I hate to see Jim DeMint leave the Senate, I believe in his movement to lead the Nations biggest Conservative think tank. In order to elect REAL Conservatives & win against the Democratic Machine… these think tanks are crucial & the greatest way to deliver the Conservative message. This is the kind of infrastructure that must be built NOW ,as we all know ,we can no longer depend on the GOP.
