If anyone wants to know why unity is so hard to achieve, why the Republican party in Maryland is fractured, they need to look no further than this post on Red Maryland. I too received these robocalls, and after listening to them, I was absolutely livid. In the short time I’ve become actively involved in politics at the local level, which was primarily just over the past year, I heard many negative things from some of my friends who had been in the circle for far longer than I. I always chose to make my own judgements, so I listened, but was intent on making my own personal determination.
When I see letters like the one I received from Anthony Marsh, a supposed ‘long time Republican’ and then I get a call from “Mary”, ‘a lifelong Conservative in Maryland’ supporting Rob Sobhani, I can even begin to express how infuriated I am. Why in God’s name would you not support OUR REPUBLICAN nominee Dan Bongino? What was stated in the robocall by “Mary” was incorrect, false, and completely not true. Dan Bongino has always supported English as our first language. I hope this ad is pulled, and if it is, it won’t be the first that the Sobhani campaign has had to take down because of false statements.
Also, as Brian Griffith’s pointed out, no authority line was mentioned in the call. This is just one of several examples of the deception that has been rampant in the Sobhani campaign. So again I ask these ‘supporters’ of Rob Sobhani, THIS man is the person you want to stand with?
I also ask you this, ‘Maryland Republican’s’ who have blindly pledged support of man who epitomizes a typical corrupt politician, why should I be engaged and involved in Maryland Republican/GOP events? Why should I give one red cent of my hard earned money to support such events? Now of course the disclaimer here, is that these two supposedly weren’t acting on behalf of Maryland Republicans as a whole. BUT…anyone who has been involved in the Maryland politics scene for any length of time, can tell you that scenarios like this have been happening for far too long.
One such example was just mentioned by Michael Swartz of Monoblogue. I’ve heard more than one person quite upset by that mailing as well. Of course we’re never going to see 100% unity on all the issues within the party, but for God’s sake, if we can’t support our REPUBLICAN candidate, there is a serious problem.
Dan Bongino has clearly stated his positions on the issues from Day 1. He’s been properly vetted by the media, but we certainly can’t say that for Rob Sobhani. I just can’t fathom why a ‘life long Conservative’ would endorse a man who endorsed Barack Obama!!?!! Now I understand how one could be confused, since one day Sobhani is a conservative, then he leans to the left, then he’s an independent. The bottom line is, Dan Bongino has never wavered on his positions, or his iron clad commitment to deliver on his promises made during this campaign.
I am just incredibly disappointed. I had so many tell me there was this ‘club’, and to be ‘in’, you had to suck up to and support the right people. I didn’t want to believe it, I really didn’t. I know there were many Republicans who were disappointed that Richard Douglas was defeated in the primary. But you man up, and move past that disappointment, and support OUR candidate, as we all are doing now with Mitt Romney.
My disillusionment with Maryland Republican’s will only be appeased if some key people stand up against this travesty and also express their disappointment with these robocalls. In another post a few days ago, about a similar incident, Brian Griffith’s said this:
Regardless, this is why we do what we do and why we remain vigilant even with those in our own party. Because those who aren’t with us when it counts are against us, and yes everybody here at Red Maryland is taking names….
The time is now to unite. United we stand, divided we fall, the choice is yours Maryland, choose wisely.
